About the Facilitator:

The facilitator for this year is Milano Harden, President and Founder of The Genius Group.  Milano has extensive training and experience in leadership effectiveness; organizational change and development; executive education, philanthropic strategy; nonprofit management; and diversity and inclusion.


 

Ceasar McDowell, President,
Interaction Institute for Social Change

When asked what his work is about Ceasar always says, “Voice.” He has a deep and abiding passion for figuring out how people who are systematically marginalized by society have the opportunity to voice their lived experiences to the world.

 

 
 
 
 
Gladys Washington, Program Director,
Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation
Gladys leads the Program Team and supervises the Program Officer, Program Associate, Grants Manager and Program Assistant. Gladys also oversees grants and PRIs in Gulf Coast Alabama, MS, LA, and the Delta; and leads the Program Team in planning and learning on public policy grantmaking. Before coming to the Babcock Foundation, Gladys was a Program Officer for the Community Foundation serving Coastal South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. 
 
 
Kenny Bailey, Sector Organizing and Strategy Lead, 
Design Studio for Social Intervention
Kenneth started his activism as a teenager, working in his neighborhood for tenants’ rights and decent housing, targeting the St. Louis Housing Authority. He went on to work for COOL, a national campus-based student organizing program, and then moved to Boston where he worked for the Ten Point Coalition, Interaction Institute for Social Change, and Third Sector New England, as well as being on the Board for Resource Generation. Most recently he has been a trainer and a consultant, primarily on issues of organizational development and community building. He first realized the need for a more “designerly” approach to community work while developing parts of the Boston Community Building Curriculum for The Boston Foundation.
 

Caroline McAndrews, Director of Research & Documentation, 
Building Movement Project

Caroline McAndrews, author of What Works: Developing Successful Multigenerational Leadership and co-author of Structuring Leadership: Alternative Models for Distributing Power and Decision-Making in Nonprofit Organizations, oversees the Project’s research and learning on social service and social change, the use of a commons approach to movement building, and generational changes in leadership, including multigenerational and alternative structures.

 

June Holley, Network Weaver
June Holley provides consulting, training and coaching to organizations around the world who are interested in creating healthier communities through a better understanding of networks, collaboration, innovation and learning. She uses the Smart Network Analyzer, a user-friendly network mapping application to help communities and regions identify and enhance their networks. June has also developed training and coaching programs for Network Weavers who are creating healthier networks.

 


Alvin Starks,
African American Policiy Forum

Alvin Louis Starks is a progressive racial justice thinker, writer and strategist that works in the fields of philanthropy and racial justice advocacy to address issues of systemic inequality.  Alvin’s visionary leadership and innovative philanthropic research supports a new generation of ideas and organizations to explore the intersections of human rights, racial justice, cross movement building and gender equity.  Alvin has written numerous reports and strategy papers for donors, civil litigation firms, colleges/universities and foundations exploring progressive activities to strengthen social change.  His work aspires to expand and stretch the untapped possibilities of social justice advocacy to create bold coalitions and strategies that will advance justice and opportunity to alleviating racial and gender discrimination.
 
 
Sally Leiderman, President,
Center for Assessment and Policy Development

Sally Leiderman is President  and one of the founders of the 25 year old non-profit Center for Assessment and Policy Development (www.capd.org).  She is an experienced evaluator of multi-year, multi-site foundation/community initiatives, leadership efforts and projects aimed at promoting social justice, reducing structural racism and/or reducing racial disparities in health, education, safety and other important areas of well-being.  With funding from the Kellogg Foundation, Ms. Leiderman is also currently working with Potapchuk Associates and World Trust Educational Services, Inc. to create training modules on white privilege that leadership development efforts can build into their ongoing training.   Ms. Leiderman  co-created www.racialequitytools.org and   www.evaluationtoolsforracialequity.org and co-authored Flipping the Script: White Privilege and Community Building, including its chapter on evaluation.
