History
Hunt Alternatives Fund advances innovative and inclusive approaches to social change at the local, national, and global levels. The Fund was established in 1981 in Denver, Colorado by Helen and Swanee Hunt as a private foundation to provide grants and technical assistance in the field of human service. In 1993, Helen formed The Sister Fund in New York to pursue her own philanthropic work. Since its founding, the Fund has contributed over $70 million to social change through a blend of grant making and operating programs.
Today, the Fund operates out of Cambridge, Massachusetts and is focused on strengthening youth arts organizations, supporting leaders of social movements, and advocating for the full inclusion of all stakeholders in peace and security processes.
Job Description Overview
Hunt Alternatives Fund includes an operating foundation and a private grant making foundation that advance innovative and inclusive approaches to social change at local, national, and global levels. Hunt Alternatives Fund operates out of Cambridge, MA, and is focused on strengthening youth arts organizations, supporting leaders of social movements, and advocating for the full inclusion of all stakeholders in peace processes.
The program assistant will report to the Director of Domestic Programs who oversees two grant-making areas of the Fund. The first is Prime Movers: Cultivating Social Capital. Prime Movers is a national program supporting leaders who engage masses of people to create a more just society. The second program is ARTWorks for Kids, which strengthens organizations that serve and empower youth by helping these organizations garner sustained support. The third core responsibility of the Director of Domestic Programs includes program evaluation and assessment for all of the Fund’s activities.
The program assistants’ primary responsibilities include but are not limited to event planning for the seminars, retreats, and Cambridge Conversations for Prime Mover fellows, research and analysis of prospective grantees, logistical coordination of grant making activities, maintaining program calendars and timelines, administrative support for the Director of Domestic Programs, and other duties as assigned. The incumbent of this position will primarily focus on the Prime Movers program, and offer supplemental support to the ARTWorks for Kids staff as directed. The Fund is a dynamic environment and this position may be called upon to support other Fund activities.
